Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Grosse Pointe, MI

Position:
Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with rotational weekends.

Employee may be eligible for shift differential of 10% for some/all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some/all hours worked on third shift. Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, and certifications. Successful candidates may receive annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshooting instruments/procedures.
  • Support department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special project completion.
  • Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Adhere usuário schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STATs or critical results.
  • Verify reagents/test kits for received, expiration, and open dates.
  • Document QC analysis, ensuring accuracy of clinical data and instrument function; make quality control decisions.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of problems affecting test procedures.
  • Report deviations from standard procedures and cooperate in investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists.
  • Assist supervisor with training other personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer client or lab personnel questions, if applicable.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • Assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    One (1) year full‑time experience in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory.
  • Preferred:
    Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with current department.
  • Physical:
    Lifting/carrying 1–10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb seldom; >50 lb requires assistance.
  • Ability to stand at bench for long periods, frequent walking/standing, and use of manual/automated pipettes and instruments.
  • Knowledge:
    Comprehensive operational knowledge in specialty, organizational policies, BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Associates in Laboratory Science, CSO certification per 42 CFR 493.1433. Credential evaluation for foreign degrees; transcripts for US degrees.
  • Skills:

    Proven leadership, detail orientation, independent work, prioritization, interpersonal, telephone communication, confidentiality, proficiency in Microsoft Office and LIS.
  • Education:

    BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA.— same as above.
  • License/Certificate: ASCP Certification preferred.
