Organisation

The Faculty of Spatial Sciences at the University of Groningen (RUG) consists of 85 members and focuses on high-quality teaching and research in real estate, geography, spatial planning, and demography. The faculty oversees the Bachelor Geography and Planning programs. The Assistant Professor's research and teaching will relate to two departments: the Department of Economic Geography and the Demography / Population Research Centre.

The Department of Economic Geography focuses on real estate, regional labor markets, development, entrepreneurship, and innovation. It manages the Master of Economic Geography and Master of Real Estate Studies. The Demography Department conducts research on 'Population and Well-Being in Context' and manages the Master of Population Studies.

The successful candidate will contribute to research and teaching, focusing on the quantitative analysis of housing and real estate markets, project development, financing, and comparative analyses between countries. The role involves studying behaviors related to residential mobility, housing transitions, and market dynamics influenced by demographic and regional factors.

The main teaching responsibilities include courses in the Master Real Estate Studies and the Master Population Studies. The role involves a 60% research and 40% teaching split.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Real Estate, Economics, Finance, Economic Geography, or Demography
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals on quantitative housing research
  • Commitment to excellent teaching
  • Strong motivation to collaborate and mentor colleagues and students
  • Obligatory Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO)
  • Fluent in English;
    Dutch language skills or willingness to learn Dutch

Conditions of Employment

The salary ranges from €2,919 to €5,070 gross per month, depending on experience, excluding holiday allowance and bonuses. The appointment is temporary for three years, with an appraisal at the end of the first year. Starting date is as soon as possible.

The first interviews are scheduled for 22 and 28 November 2013. Applications, including CV, two recommendation letters, a current working paper, and teaching evaluations, are due by 1 November 2013. Acquisition is not appreciated.
