Wind Turbine Technician Apprenticeship

Location: Coleg Llandrillo (North Wales) and Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm (Grimsby)
Salary: £17,510 first year, rising in line with internal pay scales and national minimum wage. Benefits include pension and private single medical cover.
About the roleThis 3‑year apprenticeship includes 2 years of classroom training at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl and a 3rd year of on‑site training at Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm. Upon completion you will hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Wind Turbine Operations and Maintenance and a Level 3 Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance.
Responsibilities- Electro/Mechanical problem‑solving on turbines in small teams at height and in remote locations, referencing user manuals.
- Working safely with advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
- Planning tools, spares and materials required for each job.
- Fault finding and diagnosis of turbine main component condition to determine repair viability.
- Ongoing personal development and training to become a multi‑skilled technician covering inspection, maintenance and repair.
- Willingness to learn and develop, interest in engineering.
- Able to work at height and at sea.
- Willingness to work shifts, standby or on‑call as required.
- Must live within an hour of site.
- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above, including Science, Maths and English.
- Other qualifications are desirable but not required.

Term‑time accommodation will be provided with rent and utilities paid by RWE. Commute to college is paid unless group travel is arranged by RWE. A weekly allowance for food and drink while away from home is provided during term time.
Travel to Assessment CentreAll reasonable travel costs will be paid by RWE for candidates invited to the assessment day.
Holidays25 days outside term time, plus public holidays.
