About the Role

As a Department Manager, you’ll be the leader supporting and encouraging your whole team. By bringing everyone together, you’ll be able to create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit, helping you, your team, and H&M succeed. You’ll ensure an excellent operational and visual experience for your store, customers and colleagues. You’ll be aware of your store’s strengths, opportunities, and competitors.

You will analyze and follow up on sales and create plans to optimize results and profits.

A Day in the Life

Working at H&M means no two days are the same. A typical day will include the following responsibilities:

  • Customer Sales & Profit: responsible for the total omni-channel customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines
  • Representing yourself and the H&M brand positively during customer interactions
  • Identify and act on your department’s strengths and commercial opportunities
  • Establish and analyze sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results
  • Ensure customer service is provided in all areas of the store and that your team promotes and sells products
  • Promote our Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in-store sustainability initiatives
  • Manage your department in a cost-efficient way
  • Ensure correct routines in fitting room and checkout, including transactions, returns and exchanges
  • Ensure all admin routines for both people and operations are handled correctly
  • Fashion & Trend Awareness: stay up-to-date with fashion scene, trends, tendencies, styles, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers
  • Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions
  • Team & Development: recruit, onboard, manage performance, upskill and develop your team in-store
  • Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs
  • Retain and share knowledge with your team
  • Collaborate with the in-store Visual Merchandiser team
  • Give and receive feedback to learn, develop and support each other
  • Plan and schedule the team; maintain regular communication to inform, motivate and inspire
  • Ensure procedures, routines, and legal requirements in all areas of the store are followed
  • Participate in onboarding and training processes relevant to your role and development
  • Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution: maintain a clean sales floor and back-of-house, including stockroom areas
  • Maintain high fashion quality, visual and product presentation with good garment care
  • Ensure adequate stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team
  • Oversee the garment cycle from delivery to presentation and fitting room routines
  • Utilize tools and technology provided (Instore Care App, Click & Collect, Smart Store, etc.)
  • Maintain price signs in-store and ensure a strong price perception aligned with global/local strategies
  • Update and maintain BOH areas with key information, health and safety standards
  • Responsible for opening and closing the store daily
