JOB TITLE:
Coordinator of District Safety and Security
POSITION SUMMARY: As a District Safety and Security Coordinator, you will oversee the integration of comprehensive safety programs with educational goals, ensuring all campuses maintain high professional and ethical standards. You will serve as the primary liaison between district and building administration, local law enforcement, and emergency services to coordinate incident responses, disaster preparedness, and threat monitoring.
Your role involves facilitating critical safety training for staff and students, managing safety technology, and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with board policies. Ultimately, you will support the school community through proactive crime prevention, social-emotional support referrals, and the maintenance of secure, functional learning environments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, Experience, Licensure, and Certification
- License and evidence of insurability
- Current First Aid Card Required or to be obtained within the district.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
- Five or more years of progressively more responsible safety and emergency management experience, preferably in school districts and/or public entities.
- Possession of (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Standard Response Protocol (SRP) trainer certification, and DPSST Certification.
- Demonstrated experience managing integrated physical security systems, including Access Control (card readers), CCTV/VMS platforms, and automated emergency notification software.
- Emergency Management:
Proven knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) protocols, specifically as they apply to multi-site public agencies or K-12 environments. - Exceptional ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, ranging from local police and sheriff departments to school staff and students, often under high-stress emergency conditions.
- Experience conducting safety audits/inspections and maintaining detailed incident records in accordance with District policies and risk management requirements.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills that enable the employee to interact and present information clearly amongst various employee and community groups.
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or a related field
- 5 years of experience in law enforcement, school security, or emergency services management.
- Bilingual skills preferred
- Strategic Alignment:
Integrate security guidelines with District instructional goals and Board policies to maintain high ethical and professional standards. - Emergency Coordination:
Act as the primary liaison to law enforcement and fire agencies, coordinating responses to incidents and large-scale disasters. - Safety Training:
Lead District-wide training for staff and students on Standard Response Protocols (SRP) and personal protection programs. - Operational Auditing:
Conduct regular campus inspections and safety surveys to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement. - Systems Oversight:
Manage and evaluate electronic security systems, including access control, alarms, and life-safety equipment. - Threat Prevention:
Investigate and monitor social media and cyber threats, while facilitating crime-prevention initiatives and risk-management. - Crisis Communication:
Manage emergency messaging systems, the Public Safety web page, and community notifications. - Agency Liaison:
Maintain strong working partnerships with Gresham Police and County Sheriff's offices to ensure coordinated school safety. - Traffic Safety:
Evaluate school crossing zones and collaborate with transportation authorities on speed zones and safety signage. - Behavioral Support:
