Job Description:Microchip has an opportunity for an Engineer II-Equipment (Diffusion) at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon. The Diffusion Equipment Engineer installs, supports and maintains high‑temperature diffusion furnace equipment. They respond when tools are down and assist technicians with hands‑on troubleshooting (hardware, software, sensors, etc.) to keep the fab operating reliably. They are expected to contribute to continuous improvement in their area of responsibility to ensure the support of Microchip's "Vital Few" priorities.
The Equipment Engineer writes and edits specifications, manuals and procedures for tool maintenance, and they ensure that tools are up and running by anticipating what parts need to be in stock and what parts can be rebuilt. They are responsible for root‑cause problem solving and improvement of overall tool cost of ownership.
The Equipment Engineer coordinates with Production, Process Engineering, Site Services and Safety, and they supervise the equipment technicians in their functional area.
Hands‑on experience as an Equipment Technician is preferred. Training and onboarding for candidates without hands‑on experience will require 6+ months training with an experienced technician to gain practical, real‑world knowledge of diffusion furnaces.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
4-year bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science
Or equivalent military experience OR equivalent technician experience2.5+ years of experience in equipment engineering or maintenance
Basic IT, software and database management skills
Strong data analysis and troubleshooting skills
Solid organizational, documentation and writing skills
Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in oral and written communication
A strong desire for personal continuous improvement and learning
Creative problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
Self‑directed, self‑motivated
Proficient with MS Office products
Experience with TEL Vertical Diffusion Furnace and Tempress Horizontal Diffusion Furnace
Hands‑on experience as an Equipment Technician
Physical Requirements
Able to lift, push, pull approx. 50 lbs; carry 50 lbs; sit 5%; stand 60%; walk 35%; must be able to perform activities that include climbing, bending at waist, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling, handling, feeling, hearing, talking, seeing. Work environment could include slippery surfaces, noise or vibrations, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, fumes or odors, dust or gases.
