Principal Engineer - CAD (Physical Verification)
Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer - CAD (Physical Verification) to focus on flow development and support for back‑end physical verification in semiconductor chip design. This role requires strong software skills and experience with industry tools such as Siemens Calibre, Cadence Pegasus, and Synopsys Hercules.
Job DescriptionThe CAD group offers global support for multiple technology nodes and tools. The candidate will work on flow development, develop verification run decks, automate procedures, and provide support across both digital and analog design spaces.
Responsibilities- Develop physical verification regression test cases and QA regression decks.
- Support layout and design engineers using Siemens Calibre, Cadence Pegasus, or Synopsys Hercules.
- Utilize advanced EDA methods to support ESD, ERC, voltage‑aware DRC, and via‑doubling, among others.
- Collaborate with Technology Development and Device Engineering to develop DRC rules, device models, and design‑for‑manufacturability checks.
- Develop and verify rule decks; support remote sites worldwide with layout verification activities.
- Debug physical verification issues and work with the team to improve device quality and reliability.
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years (or Master’s with 7.5+ years) of experience developing and supporting physical verification activities.
- Deep knowledge of Calibre Design Rev scripting and familiarity with SVRF and TVF.
- Proficient in debugging PV issues with RVE, Vue, or other EDA visualizers.
- Skill in customizing Calibre Interactive and comfortable with Tcl/Tk, Perl, Python, and other programming languages.
- Solid understanding of layout rules, device identification, foundry rules, and Design for Manufacturing solutions.
- Experience with Calibre/Pegasus/Hercules syntax and Cadence Virtuoso and/or Calibre
DRV is preferred. - Experience with extraction, reliability, and dynamic noise concepts is advantageous.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay RangeAnnual base salary range: $75,000 – $232,000 (depending on location, skills, and experience).
