Job Summary
The Social Studies Teacher – Middle School at Clear Creek Middle School is responsible for developing students’ academic skills through curriculum implementation, student progress documentation, and support of a safe learning environment. The position encourages students to apply understanding and problem‑solving skills while fostering positive relationships with parents and staff.
Essential Job Functions- Develop lesson plans and instructional aids aligned with the Board of Education curriculum.
- Teach middle‑level social studies courses using a state‑approved course of study and appropriate instructional publications.
- Demonstrate concepts using models, chalkboard, overhead projector, and teacher‑prepared instructional aids.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Design learning activities that connect the subject area to the physical world.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate pupil progress and prepare progress reports; may prepare letters of recommendation for scholarships, college applications, etc.
- Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals as needed.
- Communicate with parents to interpret contemporary teaching methods; discuss individual pupil progress with parents, school counselors, and other professional staff.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other staff members to solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervise pupils during assigned out‑of‑classroom activities.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in in‑service education activities and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- Assist other personnel as required to support completion of their work activities.
- Participate in meetings (parent conferences, in‑service training, site meetings, etc.) for credential and information purposes.
- Select and requisition instructional books, aids, and supplies; maintain required inventory records.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs at the school and/or district level; may teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.
- Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees.
- Prior job‑related experience
- Motivating students and communicating with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Directing support personnel and evaluating performance.
- Knowledge of age‑appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, and appropriate instructional subjects.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks.
- Maintain records and establish cooperative relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel; meet schedule and deadlines.
- Physical abilities: lifting/carrying/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, depth perception, accommodation, and field of vision.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Teaching Credential for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects
- Highly Qualified Status for assignment
- Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
- Annual salary range: $15,129 – $29,963.83 (192/193 day contract)
- Specialty stipend of $583 for certified multilingual candidates (Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, ASL, or Russian); must pass standardized proficiency test.
