Special note to applicants: Review of applicants will be ongoing until a suitable candidate is identified.
1. The Recruitment Process will include a Practical Writing Component. Applicants will be given a practical dictation to take a written record of an interview.
2. Applicants will write an essay between 1,000 – 1,200 words on a topic to be disseminated on the date of the Practical.
3. Two (2) letters of recommendation MUST be included in your application submission.
Both practical aspects indicated above will be done in person.
Job DescriptionCore Role
The Assistant Judicial Affairs will provide support to the Judicial Officer in the management of cases of academic and non-academic student misconduct. This includes the process from investigation to facilitating hearings and other resolution processes, to sanction adherence. The Judicial Affairs Officer works to ensure adherence to and promotion of University community standards, including the Student Code of Conduct, and other professional guidelines, including the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy and the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Use Policy.
Essential Functions
- Interviewing of students, faculty members and accurate documentation/recording of interviews;
- Investigation of complaints of Student Code of Conduct violations;
- Liaising with University Offices and Departments;
- Writing of Investigation Reports
- Formulating and executing non-contact directives where warranted;
- Preparation of charges and other hearing documents preliminary to disciplinary proceedings;
- Collaborating with the Chairs of the Faculty Judiciary Boards to schedule formal disciplinary hearings;
- Presentation of charges at formal disciplinary hearings;
- Ensuring procedural fairness to participants throughout the disciplinary process;
- Maintenance of disciplinary records;
- Facilitating conflict resolution through informal alternative resolutions of non-academic problems (e.g., mediation, negotiation, advising);
- Notifying the Committees on Academic Progress and Professional Standards of non-cognitive issues, including professionalism breaches, which have been addressed by the Judicial Affairs Office;
- Updating the Student Code of Conduct in collaboration with the Office of the General Counsel;
- Collaborating with the Department of Public Safety and Security and Office of Student Affairs in supporting student victims of crime;
- Following up and collaborating with the Office of Student Affairs regarding the monitoring of students after panel decisions;
- Attending magistrate court where students are virtual complainants in criminal matters.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Law, Social Work, Education or other relevant subject plus at least five years of relevant professional experience.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
- The position is an office position operating in a professional environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners and filing cabinets.
- A typical work week is 40 hours Monday to Friday with flexible start, lunch break and end day. Weekend work will be as is required.
