DescriptionThe Maintenance Technician is responsible for the effective operation, major and minor repair and changeovers of production equipment. Works with others to achieve factory objectives in safety, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection. The role emphasizes high equipment reliability and uptime, safety compliance, maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team.
Interaction occurs within the same production unit and with other units and support functions.
- Lead major and minor maintenance of automated and non-automated equipment (making, finishing) through computer terminals, control panels and/or manual means, including correlation between process and mechanical processes/equipment.
- Operate and perform changeovers of automated equipment (making, finishing, injection molding) through computer terminals, control panels and/or manual means.
- Confirm in-house availability of tools, change and spare parts required to keep production running.
- Coordinate with upstream and downstream processes with planning, warehouse, receiving and vendor representatives on timing of changeovers.
- Store tools, change parts and spare parts in appropriate locations.
- Troubleshoot, perform major and minor repairs and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and ongoing production (work with OEMs and consultants as needed).
- Serve as the first point of contact in case of mechanical and process malfunction on production lines.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Planner to establish, review, improve and execute plant maintenance system standards.
- Undertake daily reporting and updates of information systems (SAP, SFR, Cycle Counts) including documentation of maintenance activities performed on equipment.
- Provide support on capital projects on the production floor and determine recommended spare part lists.
- Participate in new equipment installation, validation and startup processes.
- Support Failure Investigations in respective areas.
- Highlight potential maintenance issues and take corrective action including parts requisitioning and maintenance planning.
- Fabricate simple machine parts using shop equipment (lathe, drill press, milling machine, etc.).
- Replace mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment when needed.
- Recommend and implement actions under daily operation pressure to drive production line performance.
- Complete regulatory and compliance documentation and procedures; highlight variances.
- Stay informed of team production performance through visual, written and verbal communication.
- Participate in regular reviews of team production performance and use information to drive continuous improvement; provide status of maintenance activity for lines/areas; recommend machine modifications.
- Participate in structured group activities related to line/area performance improvement, such as autonomous maintenance and problem solving.
- Understand production scheduling and demands; prioritize maintenance activities accordingly.
- Apply Continuous Improvement tools and techniques to achieve team goals (e.g., Quality Systems, TPM, Problem Solving).
