Overview

The Cashier is responsible for providing prompt, courteous customer service while accurately processing sales transactions. This role helps ensure a positive shopping experience by maintaining a clean, organized checkout area and being knowledgeable about store policies and products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet customers and provide a friendly, helpful experience at checkout
  • Operate cash registers and handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately
  • Issue receipts, refunds, and exchanges in accordance with store policies
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front-end area
  • Assist with stocking shelves near registers and monitoring inventory levels
  • Answer basic product questions and direct customers to appropriate departments or staff
  • Report any issues with registers, pricing discrepancies, or customer concerns to the supervisor
  • Follow all safety and loss prevention procedures
  • Support the team with other duties as needed
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior retail or cashier experience a plus, but not required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50lbs
  • Dependable, punctual, and customer-service focused
  • Willingness to learn about hardware and home improvement products
  • Must be able to accurately count and distinguish denominations of money and maintain a high level of product knowledge
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays
Summary

A Cashier associate provides aggressive customer service through greeting customers as they enter the store and the timely, accurate processing of customer transactions. The role includes scanning merchandise, processing all sales, refunds/exchanges, and closing transactions using the register. The position also involves training, maintenance, and stocking responsibilities as assigned. As a frontline representative, the cashier should greet customers and thank them for shopping with us.

Consistently demonstrate the company’s Mission and Values. Strong oral/written communication skills are important to interact with customers, vendors, and other associates in person and on the telephone.
