Job Description
Machine Technician 1 is responsible for manufacturing a quality product by operating and maintaining equipment and processes that provide optimum customer service. This position is reserved for entry‑level Machine Technicians. It also enhances the department’s safety, quality and productivity, and assists the Facilitator as required. The role involves applying all area‑specific compliance issues—including safety, quality, environmental, and plant policies—participating in continuous improvement projects, and working with maintenance to complete necessary preventative maintenance procedures.
DutiesAnd Responsibilities
- Know and adhere to all safety requirements in the work area.
- Perform housekeeping tasks in accordance with policies and schedules.
- Use all gauges in the cell correctly.
- Understand tolerances and make machine offsets to stay within spec.
- Utilize quality tools in the cell such as SPC and OEE.
- Operate at least one machine in the department efficiently (85% or better).
- Perform set‑up (change‑overs) following procedures in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot equipment, including automated operations, tooling, controls, and sensors.
- Assist the maintenance department with preventative maintenance responsibilities and participate in updating preventative maintenance schedules.
- Conduct routine equipment and product inspections and complete required documentation.
- Perform minor equipment repairs and provide feedback documentation to Maintenance and Supervisor as needed.
- Inform Supervisor or Department Manager about processes or equipment requiring attention.
- Recommend and participate in continuous improvement projects designed to improve processes, productivity, and quality, especially those related to corrective actions.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor, including working other shifts as necessary.
- Know, complete, and adhere to 5S practices in the assigned work area and throughout the department.
Skills And Abilities
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical data, including drawings and OMS.
- Proficiency in the use of common inspection and test equipment.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- High School or GED diploma required.
- Technical certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Automation preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in maintenance, mechanical, or technical field at MT or a similar employer.
