JOB SUMMARYPerform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on diesel and gasoline engines, chassis, electrical systems, drive trains, brakes, and suspensions. Utilize specialized software and tools to address electronic-controlled vehicle issues. Inspect and maintain wheelchair lifts and heating/cooling systems, ensuring safety compliance. Provide occasional bus driving services during scheduled work hours as operational needs require. Enter accurate work orders and pursue certifications. Operate in diverse environments with physical demands, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties outline the fundamental operations of the position. - Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, including diesel tune ups such as fuel pump, injector diagnosis and replacement, and setting overhead valves.
- Diagnose and repair chassis and body electrical systems, starters and charging systems.
- Repair drive train systems, 4WD systems, differentials, U-joints, mount & dismount, balance various sizes and types of tires and wheels.
- Diagnose, repair and inspect hydraulic, ABS and air brake systems.
- Perform tune ups on gas engines.
- Operate laptop computer with engine, transmission, ABS and other software programs to diagnose and repair electronically controlled vehicles.
- Drive to work towards CDE Inspector License and ASE certifications.
- Inspect, repair, maintain special needs wheelchair lifts.
- Diagnose and repair light and heavy-duty suspension and steering systems.
- Diagnose and repair heating and cooling systems on all types of vehicles.
- Perform road calls with or without supervision and operate buses during scheduled work hours to support transportation operations as needed.
- Input work orders into computer Fleet software system with accuracy in line notes and VMRS posting.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
The following are required prerequisites and qualifications. Certifications, licenses, and trainings must be current, valid, and not expired.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- Three (3) years of mechanic, shop foreman, or fleet supervisor experience
- Must be willing to seek continued education in the field
- Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado Self Insurance Pool
- Colorado driver's license
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification
- Air brake certification within one (1) year of hire
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Technician Inspector license within one (1) year of hire
- Colorado Diesel Opacity Inspector license within one (1) year of hire
- Ability to accurately enter work orders into Fleet Software Program

- Experience working in the public sector
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- CDL "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsements

- Ability to use a gas cutting torch and gas and MIG welding equipment
