OVERVIEW

Merrick is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team serving the Nuclear Services & Technology (NST) Business Unit in Greenwood Village, CO. This team specializes in designing prototype, custom equipment, glove boxes, hot cells, and remotely operated mechanisms for radioactive and hazardous materials.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead a team of engineers and designers, coordinating with other discipline leads (electrical, I&C, structural, and process). The role requires a degreed mechanical engineer capable of executing advanced designs such as hot cell and containment systems, material handling equipment, and pressure vessels.

This position involves providing expert consultation on design, development, and implementation of technical products and systems, along with recommending improvements to enhance quality.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Support development of requirements, design criteria, and applicable codes for new design packages.
  • Support designs for nuclear facility upgrades and equipment installations.
  • Provide design direction, verification, and documentation including drawings, calculations, datasheets, and test plans.
  • Assist in developing engineering project management plans.
  • Track project tasks, manage changes, and address design issues.
  • Follow quality assurance/quality control procedures.
  • Provide shop support during fabrication and testing.
  • COMPETENCIES

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
    • Minimum 12 years of design engineering experience, including 5 years in hot cell design.
    • US Citizenship and ability to acquire security clearance.
    • Proven ability in advanced equipment design, including containment systems and documentation.
    • Experience leading mechanical design teams in complex projects.
    • Proficiency with Creo or Solid Works, and Mathcad or similar software.
    • Professional Engineering License.
    • Experience with NRC or DOE projects, supplier support, testing, and startup.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance.
