DESRI is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join its team as an Asset Management Associate focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role provides the opportunity to participate in the development, acquisition, and ongoing management of utility-scale battery storage assets in an inclusive and engaging work environment.
As a member of the Asset Management team, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the operational and financial performance of DESRI’s growing BESS portfolio. You will work closely with a collaborative team of asset managers in a dynamic and agile organization, contributing directly to portfolio optimization, grid reliability, and the transition to a more flexible and resilient energy system.
This role offers an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment.
As an Asset Management Associate, you will play a key role in the safe, reliable, and profitable operation of utility-scale battery energy storage assets. Responsibilities include managing asset-level financial performance, optimizing operational and dispatch strategies, monitoring contract compliance, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
You will:
- Manage the day-to-day asset management of BESS projects, with accountability for availability, degradation management, warranty compliance, and lifecycle performance
- Monitor and analyze battery performance metrics including state of charge, cycling behavior, round-trip efficiency, degradation trends, and availability
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance providers, integrators, OEMs, and monitoring platform vendors to diagnose and resolve operational issues, alarms, or equipment failures
- Support and execute dispatch optimization strategies across market participation, tolling arrangements, or contracted revenue structures
- Oversee revenue generation from energy, capacity, and ancillary services, while monitoring operating costs and budget adherence
- Prepare asset-level financial reporting, forecasts, and variance analyses, identifying opportunities to enhance asset value and improve performance
- Partner with finance and accounting teams to validate settlements, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain compliance with internal controls
- Manage and monitor key contracts, including O&M agreements, long-term service agreements (LTSAs), warranties, interconnection agreements, and market participation contracts
- Track compliance with performance guarantees, availability thresholds, degradation assumptions, safety requirements, and reporting obligations
- Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Track and analyze KPIs to support strategies that maximize asset life, minimize downtime, and inform capital planning decisions
- Stay current on BESS technology developments, market rules, regulatory changes, and safety standards to ensure compliance and identify optimization opportunities
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, renewable energy, business administration, or a related field required
- Demonstrated experience in asset management, operations, project management, or a related role within energy, infrastructure, or power markets
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems is required and experience with grid services, power markets, or related technologies strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, and contract management
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical, commercial, and external stakeholder teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel quarterly to assigned assets, as well as for team and stakeholder meetings
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $90,000 to $120,000, depending on experience. DESRI’s compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus (guaranteed in the first year of hire), medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family-building benefits, and a charitable gift-matching program.
