Principal SCADA Engineer –
Location:
Greenwood Village, CO – Hybrid Work Schedule. CLP Engineering (CLPE) is seeking a Principal SCADA Engineer to join the SCADA team in our corporate office in Greenwood Village. Candidates must be a US Citizen due to the nature of our work as a Federal Contractor. CLPE is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years of experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations through our sister company, City Light & Power.
The Principal SCADA Engineer will support the design, configuration, commissioning, and operation support of SCADA and ADMS systems for CLPE clients as well as supporting microgrid control systems. The role is a subject matter expert of complex SCADA/ADMS systems with the ability to prepare conceptual designs, performance specifications, detailed design and integration, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities- Lead teams and perform the design, programming, and deployment of SCADA hardware and software components, including HMIs, RTUs, PLCs, and communication protocols.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on projects, providing guidance and direction to other engineering team members on SCADA system design and configuration.
- Lead SCADA system commissioning and operations support with the ability to troubleshoot issues and guide other team members in troubleshooting activities.
- Incorporate microgrids and associated distributed energy resources (DERs) into SCADA/ADMS systems and commission the respective assets.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of SCADA/ADMS systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Mentor staff to enhance understanding of the systems.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of SCADA system configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures to protect SCADA systems from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Oversee routine maintenance, software updates, and system backups.
- Analyze real-time and historical data to identify trends and potential issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field from an accredited program or adequate work-related experience.
- Minimum of twelve (12+) years of experience as a SCADA/Automation/ADMS Engineer or similar role, including at least five (5) years with substation/power system distribution SCADA systems.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) with SCADA software platforms (e.g., Siemens WinCC, Wonderware, Survalent, SEL, OSI).
- PE license is a plus.
- Expert knowledge of industrial automation protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC, DNP3).
- Advanced understanding of PLC/RTU programming and configuration.
- Skilled in network design and cybersecurity principles for SCADA systems.
- Excellent commissioning, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with customers, senior leadership and junior team members successfully.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards is a plus.
- You must be a US citizen.
- You will be required to obtain Military Base Access Security Clearance.
- Valid Driver's License required.
20% travel to project sites outside of Colorado.

Salary range: $160,000-$200,000 based on experience; eligible for participation in Short Term Incentive Plan. We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
