Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care – The PA or NP provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. They work in collaboration with supervising physicians in accordance with state law and hospital regulations. They obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review or order diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results, formulate and manage patient treatment plans, and may perform procedures and prescribe medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines.
  • Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – The PA/NP educates patients and families on care and recommended resources, collaborates with supervising physicians, and provides psychosocial support as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Information Management – The PA/NP ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements and protects information from unauthorized access.
  • Quality Management – The PA/NP demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care, and ensures compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Professional Development – The PA/NP engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency, serves as a clinical resource for new house staff, and may act as a preceptor or mentor. They also collaborate on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Experience: Prefer clinical working experience as a NP/PA within the given specialty/service line; none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process.
