5 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

  • The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking a temporary Assistant Lawyer (Housing and Litigation) to support the Housing & Litigation Team.
  • The role involves assisting the Senior Lawyer in licensing, prosecution, and housing-related legal matters.
  • This is a full-time contract (35 hours/week) from 18/01/2026 to 18/06/2026, with standard office hours of 09:00–17:00.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

  • Assist the Senior Lawyer in conducting legal work for housing and litigation cases.
  • Manage allocated licensing and prosecution matters under supervision.
  • Prepare, draft, and review legal documents, notices, and correspondence.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Support case preparation for hearings, tribunals, and court proceedings.
  • Maintain accurate case files and records in compliance with internal policies.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and stakeholders as required.
  • Conduct research on housing, licensing, and litigation law to support legal cases.
Skills/Experience
  • Qualified solicitor or equivalent legal experience in housing law, litigation, and licensing matters.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, enforcement, and prosecution processes.
  • Experience in drafting legal documents, notices, and correspondence.
  • Strong case management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal information clearly.
  • Ability to work under supervision and manage allocated caseloads efficiently.
  • Experience liaising with internal teams, courts, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in IT and legal case management systems.
