Overview

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and supporting a variety of recreational programs, special events, and facility operations. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality recreational services through direct interaction with patrons, staff, volunteers, and partner organizations. The Recreation Coordinator provides onsite operational leadership when supervisory staff are not present.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree in Recreation or a related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience in recreation programming, youth programs, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas driver’s license required. CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Essential Job Functions
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates recreation classes, programs, and activities.
  • Develops class schedules and fees; registers and enrolls participants; communicates changes, cancellations, and refunds.
  • Recruits, hires, evaluates, and coordinates class instructors.
  • Provides excellent customer service by responding to inquiries, resolving concerns, and promoting recreation center amenities.
  • Provides staff oversight and operational support in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Serves as a point of contact for customer service, operations, and conflict resolution when supervisory staff are not onsite.
  • Supports special events, citywide initiatives, and seasonal programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Handles cash transactions, collects fees, and processes memberships and program registration.
  • Assists with the development of annual program goals and evaluates program effectiveness using participant feedback.
  • Monitors facility use and enforces rules to ensure compliance with City policies, safety procedures, and departmental standards.
  • Prepares rooms and facilities for programs, meetings, and events.

  • Techniques for organizing, promoting, and evaluating community programs and events.
  • Basic budgeting, purchasing, and recordkeeping procedures.
  • Safety standards and risk management practices in public recreation settings.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Work is performed in recreation facilities and outdoor environments with varying noise levels. Subject to standing and walking for extended periods; sitting, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting. Must be able to continuously lift and carry up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent upper body movement, reaching above and below shoulder height, trunk rotation, and coordination of eye, hand, and foot movement to operate vehicles or equipment.

Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required as necessary.
