Overview

Position Overview — Registered Nurses (RN) at Recovery Centers of America render professional nursing care to patients with behavioral healthcare needs and perform total patient care assigned, including administering prescribed medications. The RN works with clinical and case management staff to coordinate care and assist with treatment plans. Maintains patients' medical records on nursing observations. May assist physician during treatment and examination of patient.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
  • Plans and provides nursing care for patients.
  • Makes nursing diagnoses of the medical status of patients and recommends treatment options.
  • Consults with medical, clinical, and other behavioral healthcare staff in designing appropriate treatment plans for clients.
  • Administers and notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
  • Arranges further medical attention when necessary.
  • Assists the client in understanding the nature of mental health disorders, the disease of addiction and the need for treatment.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
  • Tests for vital signs of pain and ensures treatment of pain.
  • Documents all patient information on medical charts and follows physician's written orders.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results according to standard medical recordkeeping.
  • Provides courteous, high-quality service to patients and their loved ones by responding to requests for service or making appropriate referrals in a timely manner.
  • Upholds personal and professional ethics, respects the culture, beliefs and abilities of individuals, and aligns with Recovery Centers of America values.
  • Maintains communication and collaboration with other health professionals; communicates effectively in writing and verbally; creates accurate and punctual reports.
  • Identifies problems, analyzes solutions, and responds quickly to new challenges.
  • Uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing solutions and/or conclusions consistent with available facts and constraints.
  • Collaborates with other health professionals and leaders from various disciplines as needed.
Qualifications
  • State Specific Responsibilities (if applicable): Knowledge, Skills and Education.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, or the equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Active registered nursing license in the state where care is delivered.
  • Current BLS certification preferred (or must complete during orientation period).
  • 2 years of experience in behavioral healthcare, addiction services or five years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of health care, detoxification process, addiction, co-occurring disorders and DSM criteria and terminology preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write clearly; strong spelling and grammar skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and group presentation skills; able to listen and respond to questions; participates in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; facility proprietary systems knowledge preferred.
  • CARN certification preferred. Competency in performing CLIA waived testing.
  • Proficiency in screening/assessing for suicide ideation and aggression.
  • Ability to safely administer medications.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level is usually moderate. Registered nurses are expected to be prepared for long hours and may work on weekends, holidays and night shifts, in close collaboration with patients.

Physical Demands

Heavy lifting (50 lbs. and over, intermittently); carrying up to 45 lbs. (intermittently); repeated bending; straight pulling up to 45 lbs. (intermittently); straight pushing up to 45 lbs. (intermittently); stooping (intermittently); squatting (intermittently); kneeling (occasionally); use of both arms and hands; overhead work (intermittently); prolonged walking (up to 4 hours/day); prolonged standing (up to 4 hours/day); sitting (up to 2 hours/day);

distance vision and color perception requirements; hearing ability to understand spoken language from a distance; emotional and mental stability; ability to perform essential functions and respond to emergencies; ability to administer at least 2 consecutive minutes of quality CPR.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
