Facilities Services is a unit in Campus Operations Division, which is part of a broad division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. The university has approximately 28,000 full‑time staff and over 6,000 part‑time employees. Facilities Services manages more than 7 million square feet of facilities spread across 1400 acres and an asset base of over $1.5 billion.
With an annual budget above $30 million and about 500 FTEs, major functions include facilities maintenance, housekeeping, and preventive and corrective maintenance of building structures and equipment.
As Assistant Director for Utilities Services on the Main Campus, you will oversee daily operations and maintenance of approximately 4.5 million square feet of academic, administrative, residence, dining, athletic, and other facilities. Responsibilities include managing a team of seven direct reports and supervising an additional sixty employees in shops such as electrical, steam, HVAC, controls, plumbing, and life safety.
Key duties:
- Managing the departmental budget and all personnel actions (staffing, evaluations, disciplinary action).
- Procurement of materials, tools, and contracts.
- Providing technical direction and ensuring the optimal performance of electrical, life safety, HVAC, plumbing, and steam systems.
- Assessing and prioritizing deferred maintenance needs and participating in construction planning and project completion.
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from accredited institutions. Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
License or CertificationNone required.
Preferred Experience , Skills, Training/EducationPreferred:
Licensed Registered Engineer in the Electrical or Mechanical field.
