Job Summary

The Electric Motor Operations Manager oversees day-to-day operations of the electric motor repair and service department. This role is responsible for managing technicians, coordinating workflow, ensuring quality and safety standards, meeting customer deadlines, and driving operational efficiency and profitability. The manager acts as the primary link between customers, technicians, and senior management.

Key Responsibilities Operations & Workflow Management
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise electric motor repair, rewind, testing, and field service activities
  • Coordinate job intake, quoting, work orders, and delivery schedules
  • Monitor job progress to ensure deadlines, quality standards, and customer requirements are met
  • Optimize shop layout, tooling, and workflow for efficiency and safety
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead, train, and supervise motor technicians, rewinding staff, and field service personnel
  • Assign work based on skill level, workload, and job priority
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching and corrective guidance
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Quality Control & Technical Oversight
  • Ensure repairs comply with OEM specifications, EASA/IEEE standards, and customer requirements
  • Review root cause analyses, failure reports, and repair recommendations
  • Oversee testing procedures including surge, hipot, vibration, and load testing
  • Ensure proper documentation and traceability of repairs
Customer & Vendor Coordination
  • Communicate with customers regarding job status, technical findings, and timelines
  • Support sales and estimating teams with technical input and repair recommendations
  • Manage relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and parts suppliers
  • Resolve customer concerns and service issues promptly
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental regulations
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards
  • Conduct safety meetings and incident investigations
Budgeting & Performance Management
  • Manage departmental labor, overtime, and operational expenses
  • Track KPIs such as turnaround time, rework rates, labor efficiency, and profitability
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve service margins

Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of experience in electric motor repair, service, or industrial rotating equipment
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
  • Strong working knowledge of AC/DC motors, pumps, generators, and VFD-related issues
  • Understanding of motor testing, rewinding processes, and failure analysis
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred
  • EASA certification or equivalent industry training
  • Experience with CMMS or ERP systems
  • Knowledge of ISO or quality management systems
Physical & Work Environment
  • Combination of office and shop-floor environment
  • Ability to walk the shop, inspect equipment, and occasionally assist with technical work
  • Exposure to industrial noise, rotating equipment, and heavy components
