Legacy Early College is a K4‑12 public charter school that originated through the vision of businessman William Brown in 2009 with an unwavering focus on “To and Through College” at every grade level. Legacy’s model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness and mental health. In addition to our college‑driven academic standards, meals are made on site, scholars participate in PE every day and Social‑Emotional Literacy is integrated in the culture and curriculum.

Position Overview

The Payroll Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll and managing employee leave requests within Legacy Early College. This position is responsible for handling all aspects of payroll administration and leave management, ensuring compliance with district policies and state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a deep understanding of payroll systems.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance of employees’ records within our current HRIS (UKG)
  • Organize and process all employee information and paperwork within the HRIS, including but not limited to compensation, payroll, leave, and benefits
  • Process payroll by collecting, calculating, and entering data in the payroll system
  • Assure compliance with applicable federal and state compliance reporting through the various internal channels provided
  • Report employment status and updates to the South Carolina Public Charter School District Human Resources department
  • Assist with report generation, maintenance, and distribution
  • Verify the accuracy of data through audits and query generation
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to answer general Payroll/Leave inquiries and respond to questions or concerns timely and accurately
  • Support the development of user procedures and guidelines
  • Communicate with employees regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and take leave
  • Oversee the return‑to‑work process for employees returning from extended FMLA, workers compensation, or other leave(s)
  • Administer other company time‑off programs as assigned in accordance with internal policy and applicable laws
  • Preserve confidentiality of employee medical documentation and employee information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Experience in K5‑12 school setting, preferred
  • CPP certification, preferred
  • Experience with UKG Ready, preferred
  • Expertise in HR policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Collaborative team player: comfortable leading and executing projects as required
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Work Schedule

This operates on the 240‑day schedule based on the Legacy Early College centralized calendar.

Compensation Package

All staff may participate in a 401(k) with matching employer contributions and have access to the fitness center. Full‑time staff also qualify for state (PEBA) benefits (medical, vision, dental) and may have up to 10 personal days (80 hours) and 5 vacation days (40 hours) available per academic year.

Physical Demands
  • Long periods of standing and sitting and having the ability to lift items up to 25 lbs. is required.
  • Position will require travel.
  • Periodic participation in activities to support Legacy Early College is required.
  • Position will have periods of extended work week hours, which is required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high‑quality education for all students.

The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies. Duties may be changed at the discretion of Legacy Early College at any time.
