Job SummaryThe Certified Medical Assistant partners with the primary care physician to deliver high-quality patient care within the scope of medical assisting and state guidelines. Duties include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations.
Essential Functions- Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner.
- Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
- Measure vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
- Perform clerical duties: checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Degree or GED.
Licensure / Certification- Active Medical Assisting certification (required): CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, NCCT.
- Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (A ‑OE) acceptable if MA certification not obtainable (not accepted in South Carolina).
BLS Basic Life Support: required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; required before independent patient care at BSMH.
Experience- One year of medical assistant experience (preferred, not required).
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
- Problem‑solving skills, basic computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional engagement with staff and patients.
