Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager or Practice Manager Director, this position is primarily responsible for providing interpretation for the Spanish speaking population presenting to NHFHS for services. The Medical Interpreter will also be responsible for assisting front desk and/or scheduling personnel when time permits.
Duties Performed- Provides accurate interpreting (spoken) and translation (written) for patients requiring services.
- Must interpret accurately, effectively, and impartially in medical settings and demonstrate knowledge of Spanish and English medical terminology, confidentiality, and ethics.
- Assists in translating forms for use at all NHFHS service locations.
- Serves as support and resource person for Front Desk and/or Scheduling personnel when time permits.
- Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective, productive relations with co‑workers, supervisors, patients, and the public.
- Assists the clinical staff with telephone calls and doctor visits.
- Addresses and maintains EHR bucket responsibilities on a daily basis to include patient care summaries, no shows, tickers, etc.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Holds a certificate to verify completion of a medical interpreter training program acceptable to NHFHS.
- Preferred:
Maintain an active Medical Interpreter Certification such as CCHI or NBCMI.
- Proficiency in oral or written Spanish and English language.
- Preferred: 2 years of experience in medical or community health interpreting.
- Preferred:
Experience serving diverse, multilingual patient populations.
