Position: Behavioral Health Director (LISW or LPC)

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Clinical Services, CMO, the Behavioral Health Director is responsible for supporting mental health care provided by behavioral health and other providers treating NHFHS patients. The Director shall perform all professional duties in accordance with their credentials, corporate policies and procedures, and established standards of care.

Duties Performed

  • Assume primary responsibility in coordination with CMO for continued development of NHFHS’ Behavioral Health Services Department.
  • Provide behavioral health care in accordance with the appropriate standards of care.
  • Document patient care/treatment information in the EHR so that services may be appropriately billed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Review patients who need referral for additional specialty mental health care (e.g., to a community mental health center; addiction treatment) and advise on treatment plans until patients are engaged in appropriate care.
  • Maintain professional cell phone and Email accounts for contact during usual business hours.
  • Check professional Email accounts daily. Respond to Email questions/consultations within two business days, sooner if urgent.
  • Develop procedures and protocols for patients who present diagnostic or therapeutic challenges.
  • Visit each NHFHS practice site at least quarterly. On‐site activities during these meetings may include meeting Clinical Counselor, discussing procedures and coordinating services, provider education, case presentation, or in‐person evaluation of selected clients.
  • Provide or participate in training and technical assistance activities organized for mental health professionals.
  • Dedicate 80% of work schedule to direct patient care and 20% to performance of administrative/supervisory responsibilities.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and evaluation of assigned professional staff.
  • Responds to organizational needs for leave coverage, office emergencies, chart completion, forms completion, peer review, and other needs in a cooperative fashion.
  • Consistently demonstrates a professional demeanor and appearance. Serves as a good role model for staff and students.
  • Stays current in the professional field and follows principles of evidence-based medicine. Follow clinical guidelines adopted by the Corporation.
  • Establishes rapport with public and private clinical care referral resources.
  • Ensure that all protected health information (PHI) in local computer/networks is stored in compliance with HIPAA regulations as specified in the Provider Agreement. Delete all temporarily stored PHI promptly as soon as the information is no longer needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention consultation as needed.
  • Performs other duties assigned by CMO, CEO or designee in their absence.

Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

Required

  • Extensive knowledge of the techniques and skills necessary to diagnose and properly treat mental disease and conditions in accordance with licensure status.
  • A working knowledge of the administrative practices and procedures, rules, regulations and policies that govern the rendering of responsible mental illness care.
  • A working knowledge of public health and preventative care guidelines.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills. Effectively communicates with patients, families and other staff members.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills and practices within his/her scope.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by working effectively with all team members, attending and participating actively in group meetings and conferring with practice managers and/or clinical managers (i.e. lab, pharmacy, and nursing) about any issues that arise.
  • Participates in NHFHS peer-review activities.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: An active South Carolina license to practice as a LISW AND Master’s Degree in Social Work OR Doctorate’s Degree in Clinical Psychology

Experience
: 2 years of experience in a supervisory role in a medical setting. Preferably with Integrated primary care Counseling experience related to assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders.
