Patient Care Technician (PCT) – St. Francis Downtown
Job SummaryA Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. The PCT is responsible for sanitizing and cleaning patients’ rooms, monitoring patients’ health and vital signs, and assisting patients with basic needs such as feeding and grooming.
Responsibilities- Provide basic patient care including comfort, vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and assist with mobility and unit-based duties.
- Act as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and/or concerns.
- Provide high-quality customer service to patients, family members, visitors and staff.
- Document patient care accurately, precisely and timely when applicable.
- Participate in hand-off/reporting of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and departure.
- Perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
- Mobilize patients using therapeutic transfer techniques that foster independence and safety.
- Encourage patient independence by assisting them to complete tasks independently when possible.
- Individualize care based on the patient’s interests and preferences.

- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
- Must have completed one of the following (required):
Successful completion of nursing aide training program OR successful passing of STNA (State Tested Nurse Aide) OR CNA Certified Nurse Aide, OR Nurses Aide state testing or completion of a nursing program with one clinical nursing course and rotation OR 1 year of relevant clinical experience
- Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care facility, with a preference for the setting in which they are applying (preferred, not required)
- Problem-solving skills with strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Professional interaction with staff and patients
- Proactive in a rapidly changing environment
EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
