Nov 7, 2024 - The Advocacy Coordinator fosters strategic partnerships with policymakers and influencers to harmonize policy tools and opportunities within sectors like Materials, Transportation, and Utilities. This role involves conducting environmental scans to identify key stakeholders, developing policy options, and generating detailed reports to guide decision-making processes that align with program goals. Additionally, the coordinator manages communication efforts, including press releases and media interactions, to promote program initiatives and track legislative developments impacting specific policy priorities, such as Seizure Safe Schools.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain relationships with policymakers and influencers to align policy instruments and program opportunities in the relevant sectors (Materials, Transportation, Utilities).
  • Perform environmental scans to identify critical stakeholders and establish relationships to promote the program’s work, opportunities, and overall agenda.
  • Develop policy options, briefs, reports, and research to provide decision-makers with tangible, concrete, and accurate information to inform decisions and align policymakers, policy instruments, and stakeholder interests with program opportunities in specific sectors.
  • Propose schedules of activities, longer-term initiatives, policy targets, and key performance indicators for all facets of the program’s awareness in line with global policy best practices about alignment with specific opportunities.
  • Prepare press releases and statements about the program and its activities to educate partners, stakeholders, and the public to share status updates and oversee the follow-through and publication with media outlets and other service providers.
  • Stay up-to-date on research related to public policy, systemic advances for women, and best practices in policy and advocacy to keep WFSA at the forefront of change.
  • Study and connect WFSA research to advocacy and policy efforts.
  • Track, analyze, and provide summaries of legislation and regulations impacting people with epilepsies, particularly at the state level and for the Foundation’s top policy priorities such as Seizure Safe Schools.
  • Attend and provide summaries of relevant legislative and administrative hearings and markups.
  • Participate and provide summaries of health, disability, and research coalition meetings.
  • Help draft letters, testimony, regulatory comments, legislative updates, action alerts, position statements, articles, and op-eds, and background materials for internal and external audiences particularly at the state level and for the Foundation’s top policy priorities such as Seizure Safe Schools.
