Overview
HDR Engineering is looking for a Bridge Inspector to join our South Carolina team. This position may be based out of any of the following HDR offices:
Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and Fort Mill. The Bridge Inspector will perform bridge inspections and some office engineering (rating, rehab/repair design, CADD). They will assist the Team Leader in performing bridge inspections and preparing reports in accordance with NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards) on a regular basis.

Responsibilities- Participate in bridge inspections, develop inspection reports, and perform structural load calculations
- Work in a team environment and independently while expanding knowledge and experience in engineering
- Support HDR's national inspection program on an occasional basis
- Perform and update load rating analyses using software such as BrR
- Assist with bridge rehabilitation and design efforts
- Coordinate and schedule with clients, subcontractors, and railroads to meet inspection deadlines
- Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of HDR's employee-owned culture
- HDR's Drug and Alcohol Policy compliance; may require drug-screen prior to hire and thereafter as required
- Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available for this position
- Bachelor's degree or associate degree in civil engineering or related field
- 2+ years' bridge/structural inspection, rating experience or design experience
- Completion of NHI 130055 "+Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" training
- Experience with SCDOT bridge inspections per BIGD and SCDOT load ratings per LRGD
- CADD experience, Micro Station preferred
- Experience with Project Wise, Google Earth and Bluebeam
- Willing to work with multiple disciplines within the office during inspection downtime
- Valid driver's license with safe driving record and ability to travel for multi-night stays
- Strong client relationship skills
- Physical ability to perform field inspections of various bridge and related structures; physical demands include ladders, boats, long drives, night work, weekends, and walking on uneven surfaces
- Exposure to environmental hazards (temperatures, water, heights, plants, snakes, ticks, spiders, etc.)
- Local candidates preferred
