Position: Day Camp Counselor I (Summer 2026)

Day Camp Counselor I

YMCA of Greenville is seeking an energetic Day Camp Counselor I to help children grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. The role involves creating and leading daily lesson plans, activities, and weekly themed programs that provide a safe, engaging environment for all children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage groups of school‑age children during homework, physical activity games, arts & crafts, nutrition lessons, and more.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with risk‑management guidelines, developmental characteristics, and weekly themes.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring all items are used appropriately.
  • Report all program changes to the Site Leader or Youth Program Director.
  • Prepare for a variety of program responsibilities, including lesson plans, devotions, group activities, family events, and water activities.
  • Assist with Parent Night Out and special events as required.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and co‑workers.
  • Create an environment that promotes belonging, achievement, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Adhere to all program rules and guidelines as outlined in the Staff Manual, Personnel Policy, Code of Conduct, and Risk Management Manual.
  • Maintain program standards regarding quality check and licensing regulations.
  • Participate in the YMCA’s annual support scholarship campaign as encouraged.
  • Aide in all areas of the Y operation as requested by management.
  • Keep accurate records, including attendance rosters, medication logs, first aid logs, discipline reports, incident reports, field‑trip rosters, checklists, closing checklists, school pick‑up rosters, and vehicle logs.

Required Qualifications
  • CPR, First Aid, Blood‑Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention certifications within 30 days of hiring.
  • 40 hours of pre‑camp training.

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Some college education.
