The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong accounting records, and assisting with day-to-day accounting operations across multiple operating companies. This role works closely with the Corporate Finance team, local operating managers, and external partners to ensure timely month-end close, reliable financial data, and compliance with company accounting policies.
This position plays a key hands-on role in the finance department and is expected to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of GAAP-compliant monthly financial statements, including support of timely and accurate month-end close for assigned operating companies.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including cash, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, and other routine and adjusting entries.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll-related accounts, and other assigned accounts.
- Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
- Support revenue recognition and accrual accounting, including percentage-of-completion calculations where applicable.
- Maintain accurate accounting records within Quick Books, Sage, and other ERP systems, ensuring transactions are properly coded and documented.
- Assist with intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and tie-outs across operating entities.
- Support payroll review and analysis, including reconciliation of payroll entries and related liabilities.
- Prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports and analyses related to revenue, cost of sales, operating expenses, and operational performance.
- Assist in maintaining and following established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support audit and tax processes by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to information requests.
- Partner with Corporate Finance and OpCo managers to resolve accounting issues and improve data accuracy.
- Participate in system implementations, process improvements, and special projects as assigned.
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
- 2+ years of accounting experience preferred; experience in construction, trade services, or project-based environments a plus.
- Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
- Familiarity with percentage-of-completion or job-cost accounting preferred.
- Experience working in Quick Books, Sage, or similar ERP systems.
- Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and identify discrepancies.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and completeness.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.

- Regular use of hands and arms to handle, reach, and operate office equipment.
- Ability to read detailed information, including small print, and enter data into computer systems.
- Ability to prepare written documents and reports using a computer or writing instruments.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and copiers.
- Indoor work environment with moderate to low noise levels.
- Generally sedentary with occasional exposure to varying temperatures or wet/slippery surfaces, with large trucks and equipment on site.
- Occasional proximity to mechanical equipment or moving parts.
- In-person role based at the Greenville, SC Operation Company.
- Frequent after-hours, weekend, and rotating or varying work schedules as business needs require.
