Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern AHEC) is a private, nonprofit educational organization affiliated with East Carolina University (ECU). The mission of Eastern AHEC, in accordance with the Statewide AHEC Program, is to provide and support educational activities and services with a focus on primary care in rural communities and those with less access to resources to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina.
Eastern AHEC functions in close collaboration with East Carolina University, and with the other NC University programs in Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, Medicine, and Pharmacy, as well as other institutions of higher education. Eastern AHEC serves 23 counties in the eastern part of the state and is one of nine centers located in North Carolina. Governance is by a Board of Directors with representation from regional health care institutions, the community at large, and the community college system.
Mental Health Education provides services to the five Area L counties as well as the 23 counties in our region. The administrative structure of Eastern AHEC consists of an Executive Director, a Chief Administrative Officer, a Director of Fiscal Services, a Director of Information & Technology Services (ITS), a Director of Communication, a Director of Educational Support Services, and six Division Directors which includes:
Quality Support Center, public health / ORPCE / and student services, mental health education, nursing and allied health education (the approved provider unit), continuing medical education / dental / pharmacy CE education, pharmacy education and library services.
The Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern AHEC) department at East Carolina University is seeking a (12-month, stated-definite term) Director of Nursing and Allied Health Education. The responsibilities include leading the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Education, and the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education programs for nurses and allied health professionals in the Eastern AHEC 23 county region in response to assessed needs.
Credited nursing education activities will be done in compliance with ANCC/NCNA guidelines for continuing nursing education. It is expected that the Director will work with their team and the other education departments to create innovative profession‑specific and interprofessional educational activities that will foster the provision of excellent clinical care and the development of highly functioning clinical teams. The Director will provide consultation and technical assistance, based on knowledge and expertise, to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and healthcare providers.
The position reports to the Executive Director of Eastern AHEC.

Minimum Education / Experience- Master's degree or other post-baccalaureate degree and one year of relevant experience; or will accept in substitution a Bachelor's degree in nursing and three years of experience in management or project leadership.
- Licensed registered nurse in North Carolina or eligible for licensure in North Carolina.
- Experience collaborating and building strong relationships with many different constituents.

- Five years of experience in leadership/management, particularly in staff development.
- Knowledge of the current ANCC Accreditation Program and its requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles.
- Knowledge of current Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing and allied health continuing education programs with evidence of ability to analyze/synthesize information related to accreditation criteria.
