Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Professional Practice and Magnet Programs is responsible for cultivating and sustaining a professional practice environment across ECU Health, supporting the Vice President of Nursing Excellence and leading the Journey to Magnet and Pathways to Excellence designation or redesignation for all system entities. This role integrates leadership in nursing education, evidence-based practice, and professional governance to foster a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The Assistant Director acts as a subject matter expert, collaborating with the Nurse Executive Council and Centers of Excellence to plan, design, implement, and maintain nursing excellence throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead system-wide efforts to develop, implement, and sustain an exemplary professional practice environment and culture reflective of a high-performing Magnet-designated organization.
- Collaborate with the Medical Center's Director for Magnet to guide the development or redesign of a comprehensive, system-wide nursing professional practice model, ensuring consistency and excellence throughout ECU Health.
- Align Magnet or Pathway to Excellence activities with the nursing strategic plan and organizational goals.
- Assess system entities for readiness for Magnet or Pathway to Excellence designation or redesignation, and prioritize related journeys.
- Promote and support shared decision-making structures and the professional practice model across all system entities.
- Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for nursing excellence, including nursing-specific data analysis and benchmarking.
- Build and maintain interdisciplinary relationships to enable a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education programs, certification support, and career advancement pathways for nursing staff.
- Support innovation and continuous improvement in nursing practice and professional development.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree in nursing or a related field required;
Doctoral degree preferred. - Current RN license in the state of North Carolina or eligibility for licensure required.
- 5+ years of experience in nursing leadership, professional practice, and Magnet or Pathway to Excellence programs required.
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practice, clinical education, and professional governance.
- Strong track record of building interdisciplinary relationships and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
