Overview

Under limited supervision, the Director of EMS is responsible for the leadership, administration, and continuous improvement of the College’s Emergency Medical Services program. The Director oversees program development, instructional delivery, compliance, budgeting, and partnerships to ensure high-quality EMS education aligned with OEMS, the North Carolina Community College System, and Pitt Community College standards. This role supports student recruitment, retention, and success;

supervises instructional staff; manages resources and facilities; and collaborates with local and state EMS agencies to ensure program relevance, compliance, and workforce alignment. The Director models the College’s values of excellence, collaboration, innovation, accountability, and a student-centered focus.

What You ll Do

  • Manage the development, maintenance, and administration of a comprehensive EMS program.
  • Coordinate the integration of the instructional components of the EMS program including the selection and evaluation of instructional staff, preparation of staff assignments, curriculum development, class schedules, and program development and monitoring.
  • Coordinate all support activities, including facilities, equipment, registration, management and supervision of students and student records.
  • Develop, implement, direct, and evaluate activities related to recruitment, admissions, assessment, advisement, and retention of students.
  • Provide course instruction when required.
  • Complete required class visitations and evaluations.
  • Maintain standards for compliance with OEMS, NC Community College System, and Pitt Community College.
  • Consult with state and local agencies in developing and administering training programs through the establishment of an advisory committee; interview representatives from such agencies to ensure that program objectives are aligned with training needs.
  • Direct and implement the development and management of the Emergency Medical Services Program budget; supervise the preparation of budgets and, upon approval, assume overall responsibility for timely and accurate implementation.
  • Prepare financial reports, presentations, brochures, and other documents pertaining to the Emergency Medical Services Program.
  • Research, identify, and evaluate appropriateness of grant opportunities in relation to the goals and objectives of the EMS program.
  • Attend local, regional, state, and national conferences and meetings associated with EMS program.
  • Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations. Participate in annual FERPA training.
  • Identify and improve upon internal work-flow procedures in an effort to provide improved customer service to Continuing Education customers, both internal and external.
  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform related duties as assigned
