Organizational Unit Overview: Academic Affairs ("AA") is headed by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs who serves as the institution’s Chief Academic Officer ("CAO") and is responsible for administering academic policies. AA is comprised of the university’s colleges, schools, and libraries, along with other academic support and administrative units, including Learner Operations, Research, Innovation and Engagement, Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research, and Global Affairs.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is the primary point of contact for traditional first-year students, transfers, or non-traditional adult students seeking admission to East Carolina University. The office identifies and recruits potential applicants with outstanding academic ability and potential and assists in the application process to completion.
Job Duties:
Located in Virginia (Richmond or Fredericksburg preferred; accessible within 2 hours to the Tidewater and Northern Virginia regions). This position serves in an informational recruitment role with prospective students, parents and high school counselors, while demonstrating the highest commitment to outstanding customer service. Admissions Counselors are responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic territory, including managing all recruiting and yield activities within the territory and other designated geographic areas.
This position articulates admissions policies and procedures to students, families, and school counselors; participates in university undergraduate admissions recruitment activities, including high school day/night programs, college fairs, and individual visits. This position advises and counsels prospective students and families on ECU’s educational opportunities, admissions criteria, policies, procedures, and scholarship programs at informational sessions, ECU Open House, Pirates Aboard, and other special events.
75% Territory Management
- Travel extensively in the assigned geographic region to recruit qualified students.
- Meet and communicate effectively with prospective students and families on the educational opportunities at East Carolina University, admissions criteria, policies, procedures, academic and major scholarship programs, and student services within the university.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with high school counselors, independent counselors, alumni and other key influencers in the recruitment process within the assigned region.
- Plan and conduct extensive outreach and conversation-building activities (in-person and/or virtual), via phone, email, written correspondence, and social media, with prospective students and their families throughout the recruitment funnel.
- Proactively communicate and follow-up with prospective students during the recruitment cycle to assist and answer questions through enrollment at ECU.
- Report information related to the outcomes of recruitment initiatives, including budgetary impact and enrollment funnel data for the designated territory.
- Submit travel documentation, receipts, etc., in a timely manner and according to University policy and procedures.
15% Recruitment Team Support
- Serve on the Office of Admissions On Call/E-mail rotation to support prospective students.
- Represent ECU at additional events or presentations on campus or outside the designated territory.
- Complete individual projects assigned by the Associate Director of Recruitment or their designee.
10% Continuous Training and Learning
- Attend in-person and/or virtual office training for CRM, Banner, etc.
- Participate in staff development opportunities.
