We are one of the largest Colleges of Business in the state with approximately 4,200 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. To date, the COB has approximately 150 faculty members of the highest caliber, skilled in the scholarship of research, teaching, and application of knowledge. The Center for AI in Business at East Carolina University is a strategic initiative designed to catalyze innovation, workforce development, and economic transformation in eastern North Carolina. Its mission aligns directly with ECU's broader goals of student success, public service, and regional transformation, and with the College of Business's commitment to preparing future leaders through experiential learning and applied research.
The College of Business is seeking a Director to lead the Center's successful launch, growth, and longterm sustainability. This role demands significant leadership, coordination, and strategic oversight across multiple domains:
The Director will be responsible for shaping and executing the Center's vision, which includes:
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships with regional industries such as farming, manufacturing, tourism, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.
- Positioning the Center as a focal point for AI-related initiatives across the College, University, and region.
- Ensuring alignment with ECU's mission and the College of Business's strategic goals.
The Center's programming spans three pillars—professional education, student experiential learning, and applied research. The Director will:
- Lead the design and delivery of professional education programs in AI, including workshops and micro-credential offerings.
- Coordinate with faculty and industry partners to establish experiential learning projects that engage students in real-world AI applications.
- Guide applied research initiatives, including publications with student co-authors.
The Director will manage the Center's operations and growth trajectory, including:
- Building and coordinating a network of faculty affiliates.
- Recruiting and supervising graduate assistants.
- Managing resources such as advanced technologies (e.g., robots, VR/AR headsets) and dedicated space for demonstrations and storage.
- Driving revenue generation through workshops, grants, sponsor ships, and potential tech transfer opportunities.
The Director will serve as the primary liaison to external stakeholders, including:
- A 12-member industry advisory board.
- Corporate sponsors and grant-making organizations.
- ECU's Tech Transfer office for monetizing AI-driven applications.
