The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. ** Description of Work
** This position is assigned to the OSDT Eastern Training Center in Greenville, North Carolina, and requires a General Instructor Certification issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.
The position is responsible for the delivery and instruction of Correctional Officer basic training for the Central Region of NC-DAC Institutions. The position also supports the delivery of training and instructs in other Regions/Divisions as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the agency. The position supports Prisons Correctional Officer Basic Training (COBT) in accordance with NC Criminal Justice Training and standards.
This position performs other training related functions including training logistics and training material development. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and instructing blocks of training for COBT for NCDAC. Employees in this position are responsible for writing course plans and objectives, reviewing, revising, and developing lesson plans and training materials. Work includes delivering instruction independently and instructing as a member of an instructional team in accordance with approved training materials and methodology.

In addition, this position research materials for course development, developing courses strategies and objectives, modifying course content, and participating in evaluation of courses. This position must establish and maintain effective communication in written and oral form with students, instructors, and supervisors. Work is performed both independently and as a member of a training team with minimum supervision. This position reports to a Correction Training Coordinator and is subject to review and evaluation through reports, student feedback and stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning, organizing, and instructing blocks of training for COBT, Correctional Officer and/or Instructor Training for NCDAC  - Drafting course plans and objectives, evaluating, updating, and creating lesson plans and training materials  - Delivering instruction and collaborating as part of an instructional team, following approved training materials and methodologies  - Researching materials for course development, developing courses strategies and objectives, modifying course content, and participating in evaluation of courses     Certification in Firearms and or CRDT specialty certification with the condition of attaining the remaining specialty within 6 months of the start date.
