Job SummaryLead a two‑year foundational clinical experience for first‑ and second‑year medical students, providing early structured exposure to patient care. Oversee curriculum design, faculty development, student assessment, and clinical site coordination.
Responsibilities- Maintain and update the course syllabus and learning objectives.
- Align weekly activities with foundational science content.
- Create session guides, assessment tools, and reflection exercises.
- Schedule students, assign to clinical sites, and manage preceptor capacity.
- Coordinate site agreements, onboarding, and orientation with the Office of Clinical Education.
- Track student attendance, completion of required experiences, and provide timely narrative feedback.
- Collect and review student evaluations, faculty feedback, and performance metrics; lead an annual course evaluation and improvement plan.
- Recruit, orient, and support faculty preceptors; provide faculty development sessions on observation, feedback, and narrative assessment.
- Monitor faculty performance through student evaluations and coaching conversations.
- Attend required clerkship director meetings and school‑wide curriculum committees.
- Collaborate with basic science directors, simulation, clinical skills, foundations of doctoring, and interprofessional education programs to integrate early skills training.
- Permanent Brody School of Medicine faculty member.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution (ECFMG certification accepted).
- Experience in clinical teaching of medical students.
- Full, unencumbered medical license in North Carolina.
- Full DEA registration certificate.
- Credentialing with ECU Physicians.
- Demonstrated skill in feedback, coaching, and learner assessment.
- Commitment to a supportive learning environment.
- Prior experience as a course director, clerkship director, or longitudinal preceptor.
