The mission of the Department of Pediatrics at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine is to provide exemplary medical education and training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, the department is committed to providing model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children in eastern North Carolina, advancing scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and offering continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full‑time Pediatric Pulmonologist to join the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology Medicine. The Division is dedicated to delivering excellent clinical care for infants and children with all types of lung disease in eastern North Carolina. The academic pediatric pulmonologist will provide excellent medical education (teaching) for residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners.
There is a very active outpatient clinic including a growing Cystic Fibrosis Program, along with consultative inpatient services within the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital, East Carolina University Health Medical Center. A Pediatric Sleep Lab is available and a Sedation Service is available to assist with bronchoscopies.

The fixed‑term (12‑month) or tenure‑track position is available at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Clinical Professor, or Professor. Employment provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) and multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability. This position is contingent upon the availability of funds.
- MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution, or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina.
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatrics;
Pediatric Pulmonology.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various voluntary supplemental retirement plans (401k, 403b, 457). While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.
