Position Summary
Savannah R-III School District is seeking a compassionate, student-centered Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of all students. The counselor will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and administrators to foster a positive school climate and promote student success.
Primary Responsibilities- Implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with district goals and Missouri standards
- Provide individual and group counseling for students
- Support students with academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to address student needs
- Develops and delivers classroom guidance lesson, implements SEL curricula, and leads initiatives that promote a positive school climate and student well-being
- Participate in problem-solving teams, IEP/504 meetings, and parent conferences
- Assist with classroom guidance lessons and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and staff
- Provide support and guidance for students experiencing crises, behavioral challenges, or other social-emotional needs.
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards of the counseling profession
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
- Valid Missouri School Counselor certification (Elementary or K–12)
- Degree in School Counseling or related field
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with elementary-aged students
- Commitment to supporting the whole child and fostering a safe learning environment
- Prior experience as an elementary school counselor
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning
- Experience working with diverse student populations
