The Heavy Equipment Operator will be assigned to a crew performing general maintenance on the City's right of ways. The primary responsibility of this position will be to safely and effectively operate a backhoe/ loader, run chainsaws, bucket trucks, and dump trucks, but not limited to boom tractors. This position will be required to be in an on‑call status for any tree‑related problems for 24 hours a day for a seven day period.
This position could also be required to work on the City’s snow program. The assigned schedule is subject to change and emergency callbacks can occur 24 hours a day during emergencies and/or weather events. The physical duties include: stooping, standing, bending, kneeling, walking, climbing, shoveling, and heavy lifting up to 50lbs.
Work is performed outside in all weather conditions and may require a flexible schedule with little or no notice that may include weekends and holidays. This employee must maintain a reliable means of contact (i.e. home or cellular telephone) for call‑back duties and/ or emergency situations. This employee must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's Permit within 30 days and a valid Class A unrestricted Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement within 120 days of employment

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Minimum Qualifications:- High School Diploma/GED with 1-3 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, bucket trucks, and/or dump trucks, etc.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License
- Tree knowledge, such as felling/removal, use of bucket trucks, and lifts
