primary purpose of the organizational unit: facilities operations provides a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic units. Services include corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance, safety/compliance, project management, and renovations for a campus with 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on nearly 300 acres.
position summarythis position is responsible for providing preventive maintenance and repairs to grounds equipment, such as mowers, skid steers, backhoes, forklifts, two-cycle equipment, and utility carts, both gas and electric. It is also responsible for completing work orders to track the work performed.
responsibilities- 40% – perform repairs, as needed, to return equipment to operation
- 40% – perform preventative maintenance on equipment per pm work order schedule
- 10% – complete work orders to track work
- 10% – order necessary parts
high school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies needed to perform the work. Optional guidelines: experience in the field of work related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
preferred qualifications- working knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair of small engine equipment, diesel-powered equipment, and electrical utility carts.

key responsibilities- order necessary parts
- work with vendors to ensure the supply of parts for repairs and the minimization of costs.
- complete work orders, including time spent on task and any costs associated with completing the work order.
- complete checklists on pm work orders as issued.
- diagnose and repair issues that prevent equipment from operating at peak efficiency.
- knowledge – technical: understands standard and non-standard work processes; performs a variety of recurring and non-recurring work; analyzes and determines courses of action; examples include removals/replacements of drums and rotors and repairing complex wiring.
- safety and health compliance: identifies and resolves potential shop safety problems and unsafe practices; promotes safe task performance; incorporates safety measures in all activities; regularly assesses shop safety conditions.
- problem solving: ensures non-routine work meets service standards; checks and rechecks work; seeks supervisor approval; uses proper record-keeping.
- customer service: anticipates and understands customer needs; balances priorities; maintains positive relationships with internal/external customers.
