Organization: UNC Greensboro – Greensboro, NC
Position SummaryThis staffed position is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading automated fire alarm systems across the 100‑building campus. The role includes hardware and software preventive maintenance, system improvements, and participation in an on‑call rotation. It is a mandatory position under the university’s Adverse Weather and Emergency Event policy.
Key Responsibilities- Repair and troubleshoot fire alarm systems (40% of time).
- Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and inspection of fire protection systems (40%).
- Maintain accurate records of all tests, inspections, repairs, and associated technical data (15%).
- Support in‑house construction and renovation projects involving life‑safety work (5%).
- Participate in an on‑call rotation and respond to emergency service requests.
Associate’s degree in Electronics or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be earned from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional Required Certifications, Licencures, and Certificates- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- NICET Level II or higher certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
- Factory certification from at least two major fire alarm manufacturers for system programming and operations.
- Experience reviewing building designs for life‑safety systems.
- Experience conducting system operational testing, inspections, and commissioning for access‑control and fire protection systems.
- Ability to prioritize, schedule, assign, and manage workload including service orders, preventive maintenance programs, emergency requests, and backlogs.
- Salary range: $52,549 – $58,388 per year.
- Schedule:
8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday. - Full‑time, 1.0 FTE; non‑exempt.

- Typical duties involve repetitive hand movements, lifting 0–30 lbs., climbing ladders and stairs, and operation of equipment at heights.
- Work may occur in electrical hazards environments, on roofs, inside/outside, and in vehicles.
