Facility Maintenance Technician - Building Trades

Working Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. •
Salary Range: $42,935 – $47,705

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, secure, and comfortable living environment.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of applicable policies and procedures and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe working environment.
    • Accomplishes tasks and processes accurately and completely.

    • Knowledge of proper and safe use of maintenance equipment, chemicals, tools, etc.

    • Establishes and maintains a positive view and cooperative working relationship with all members of the campus community.
    • Effectively performs in a service environment; observes and reports through the work‑order system.
    • Possesses good oral and written communication skills; can follow oral and written instructions.
    • Assists as required and cooperates with staff, faculty, tradespeople, and custodians.
    • Identifies problems, determines possible solutions, and actively works to resolve issues.
  • Plan, organize, control, and direct all aspects of required corrective and preventive maintenance for all campus housing.
    • Performs semi‑skilled labor in trades such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, etc.
    • Operates, repairs, and maintains various power and hand tools.
    • Works individually or in teams; communicates effectively orally, in writing, or electronically.
    • Handles frequently changing priorities and follows through on assignments.
    • Applies problem‑solving skills and sound judgement.
  • Provide customer service to students and staff.
    • Responds to plumbing and all other facilities requests; requires working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and carpentry systems.
    • Occasional overtime may be required, especially during the summer months (May – Aug) when buildings prepare for occupancy.
    • Participates in the on‑call rotation after normal hours if required.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent – OR Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work
. Optional guidelines:
Experience in the trade areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Must have a valid NC Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications
