- Hourly Employment
:
Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays. - Limited Hours
:
Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period. - Pension System
:
Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.
While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

Primary Duties/Brief Description of WorkThe Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is a nationally accredited department and a three time gold medal award winner. As reflected in the department's vision, Greensboro Parks and Recreation's diverse facilities, programs, and services build better lives and a better community every day. The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking qualified candidates as Outdoor Adventure & Environmental Education Assistants.
As an OA/EE Assistant duties will include: assisting the Greensboro City Lakes with all daily operations, including but not limited to renting & launching equipment and routine maintenance/grounds upkeep; help facilitate a broad scope of environmental education programs; participate in outreach opportunities at community events and schools; and utilize the E.C.O. bus (E.C.O= Engaging our Community with the Outdoors), a mobile environmental classroom.
Employees will also be tasked with taking a counselor role in upcoming teen summer camp. Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends, evenings and holidays
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Minimum Qualifications- Associate’s degree
- Must be 18 years of age
- Valid Driver's License
- Will be required to complete and maintain a NC Boater's License
- Must be able to pass swim test
- Must be comfortable working around or on open bodies of water
- Environmental Education Knowledge
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Prior Customer Service experience
- Boating/Fishing Experience
- NC Environmental Education Certification
- Previous summer camp employment experience
- Outdoor skills (hiking, kayaking, climbing, etc.)
- Van driving experience (15 passenger)
- Animal Care Experience
