Nurse Extern Program

All applicants must currently be enrolled in your final year of nursing school*.

Join Authoracare Collective for a 7‑week paid nursing externship and become part of an interdisciplinary team caring for patients at end of life. Gain experience by partnering with a hospice nurse preceptor to discover this unique role nurse's serve. This experience will enhance your clinical knowledge and allow collaboration with members of the patient care team to provide an excellent hospice experience.

The Nurse Extern provides patient care under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, according to Authora Care's scope of service and within the Extern's scope of practice. The Nurse Extern is assigned to an RN Preceptor. Provides basic patient care according to the skills and competency guidelines set by the NC Division of Facility Services (NTI), and the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Nurse Aide Central Registry (NTII), if applicable.

• Must be a senior in nursing school

• Applications must be received by February 20, 2026

  May 11, 2026 – June 23, 2026

  Work 32 hours per week:
  Monday – Friday (Four 8‑hour day shifts)
• Location:
  
  Burlington or Greensboro Campus

• Rising senior nursing student actively enrolled and in an approved school of Nursing. Completion of a Nursing Assistant I training program (ADN or BSN program)
• Currently listed and in good standing, as a Nurse Aide I with the Division of Health Service Regulation. Optional listing as a Nurse Aide II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Nurse Aide Registry.
• Valid state‑issued driver’s license required. Must carry automobile liability insurance at limits required by agency. Must have own transportation.
