Job Summary
Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, provide nursing care within the scope of licensure for assigned patients according to established nursing standards, hospital policies, and procedures.
Essential Functions- Administer medication, perform treatments, and provide patient care responsibilities as prescribed.
- Consult with and keep the Registered Nurse informed of activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient’s condition.
- Provide appropriate pain management techniques and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration within scope of practice.
- Assist with the rehabilitation and treatment of patients in accordance with the medical plan of care, updating and revising the plan under supervision.
- Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills as directed.
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Interact professionally with patients/families and involve them in the planning of care.
- Communicate with Social Services/Discharge Planner regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
- Interpret data about the patient’s status to identify age-specific needs and provide required care.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and work under stressful situations.
- Maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Travel is not required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational/practical nurses.
- Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse License.
- BLS Certification required.
- Intravenous Therapy and Blood Certifications preferred.
- ACLS may be required in certain care areas.
- Minimum six months’ prior experience in an acute care setting preferred.
