Summary
The Shift Process Engineer serves as both the technical expert and leader for operations in the batch process area of the facility. This engineer will be responsible for the overall performance of the process, including monitoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting various chemical manufacturing production lines. The role partners with the shift supervisor to ensure safe, efficient, compliant production while addressing technical issues, maintaining equipment, and leading the shift team to meet production goals.
The engineer will also assist with trials and new product development as they are transitioned to commercial processes. This position will lead into a full‑time day position, if desired, within two years or sooner. Entry level position into the chemical industry.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, plant‑specific safety and environmental regulations; conduct risk assessments, participate in safety audits, PHA’s/PSSR’s; issue Safe Work Permits; respond to emergencies as needed.
- In partnership with the shift supervisor and the crew, write, update, and ensure adherence to procedures, work instructions, and forms.
- Oversee product quality by monitoring process conditions, analyzing testing data, and ensuring adherence to specifications within acceptable tolerances.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to address non‑conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Work closely with supervisors, operators, technicians, and other shift personnel to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide technical guidance and training to staff and operators.
- Participate in or lead 5S and Kaizen events.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and energy efficiency.
- Participate in root cause analyses.
- Monitor chemical processes, equipment performance, and production metrics using DCS, PLC’s, and manual records.
- Optimize process parameters to maximize yield, quality, and efficiency while minimizing waste and energy use.
- Diagnose and resolve process‑related issues, such as equipment malfunctions, product quality deviations, or production bottlenecks.
- Analyze real‑time data to identify and address deviations from standard operating conditions.
- Coordinate with maintenance to perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
- Identify and report equipment issues that could impact production or safety.
