IT Technical Writer

Piper Companies is seeking an IT Technical Writer to support documentation efforts within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. The IT Technical Writer role is ideal for a seasoned writer experienced in documenting technical processes, gathering business requirements, and producing clear, structured content across multiple platforms.
The IT Technical Writer is a long term contract opportunity and requires you to sit on site in Greensboro, NC 1 - 2 weeks per month.

• Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, process flows, and system guides within a manufacturing environment.
• Gather and document detailed business requirements through interviews, workshops, and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Develop and organize content within platforms such as Confluence, SharePoint, and other documentation systems.
• Leverage process‑mapping tools to visually represent workflows and system interactions.
• Work closely with Agile teams using Jira to track progress, document user stories, and maintain project clarity.
• Support UX writing and API documentation efforts to ensure clear communication of functionality and user expectations.

• 7+ years of technical writing experience, preferably supporting IT or engineering teams.
• Prior experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong background in gathering and documenting business requirements.
• Proficiency with Confluence, SharePoint, or similar documentation platforms.
• Experience with process‑mapping tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, or similar.
• Hands‑on experience with Jira for Agile documentation and workflow management.
• Knowledge of UX writing principles and familiarity with API documentation.

• 60.00-$75.00 per hour
