As a Behavioral Health Crisis Counselor – Shift Lead
, you will be on the front lines of innovative, people-centered crisis response, partnering with Greensboro Police Department officers as part of the Behavioral Health Response Team. This role is ideal for a licensed behavioral health professional who is passionate about de-escalation, compassionate engagement, and connecting individuals to the resources they need to stabilize and thrive.

Salary & Classification
  • Estimated Hiring Range: $65,816 – $86,610 annually

  • Full Salary Range: $54,102 – $96,814 annually

  • Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Work Schedule
  • Monday – Friday, 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM

  • In-person role; not eligible for remote employment

About the Role

As the Behavioral Health Crisis Counselor – Shift Lead, you will serve as a key responder and leader within the City’s Behavioral Health Response Team. Working alongside GPD officers, you will:

  • Respond to emergency calls involving individuals experiencing mental or behavioral health crises

  • Conduct on-scene crisis assessments, triage situations, and provide de-escalation and stabilization support

  • Offer short-term counseling, safety planning, and immediate intervention

  • Provide post-crisis follow-up, care coordination, and case management to ensure connection to appropriate community resources

  • Serve as a shift-level leader, supporting team coordination and high-quality service delivery

  • Build and maintain relationships with community providers and stakeholders

  • Represent the Office of Community Safety at meetings, resource fairs, and community events

Minimum Qualifications

We welcome candidates who bring the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a closely related behavioral health field

  • Current professional licensure (LCSW, LCMHC, or LCAS)

  • One (1) to three (3) years of related professional experience in behavioral health, crisis response, or a similar setting

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in crisis intervention, co-responder models, or community-based behavioral health services

  • Experience collaborating with law enforcement or emergency response professionals

  • Strong skills in de-escalation, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive
